TheFaceShop Character Mask (Brightening) Review

Today's post is about another product from TheFaceShop, a Korean chain of stores that recently entered the Canadian marketplace and that's still working on its English online presence. Despite my stellar Googling abilities, I can't find anything from TheFaceShop on its Character Mask, and that includes searching the company's main Korean site.

I received this sheet mask in my November Topbox. Based on that, and on the various beauty blog posts I found about this product, it appears that this item is available in TheFaceShop's North American outlets. It's essentially a fun spin on TheFaceShop's existing single-use, sheet mask; that spin being to decorate the mask with a cartoon-like "character" design.

THEFACESHOP Real Nature Mask Kelp

As someone who's nine months pregnant, I don't really need a mask that promises to make skin look brighter or healthier. But one that's focused on removing impurities? That has my interest.

I received THEFACESHOP's Real Nature Mask Kelp a few months ago, when I attended a THEFACESHOP event. So yes, this product is a freebie. It's also the first THEFACESHOP product that I've found actual details about online.

According to the company, this mask, "...purifies skin, leaving it soft to the touch." It supposedly does this thanks to its inclusion of kelp extract, which "...help(s) eliminate impurities and protect skin from pollution." Kelp extract, a type of algae, is actually known for its moisturizing/anti-inflammatory agents/antioxidants properties so there is something to these claims.

THEFACESHOP Paraffin Nutrition Nail Pack

I'm a big fan of face masks and recently discovered foot masks so I guess it makes sense that I'm now trying out a hand mask. Made by THEFACESHOP (the same company that makes the foot mask), the Paraffin Nutrition Nail Pack* is, "An easy to use fingernail care pack that provides concentrated care on the fingernail and cuticle." I have no idea what exactly "concentrated care" means as THEFACESHOP doesn't elaborate. If I have one primary recommendation for THEFACESHOP, it's that it could beef up its English copy.

This product is packaged in two halves, one for the left hand and one for the right. Based on the instructions, I was excepting that this mask would consist of two fabric "gloves," similar to the foot mask. Instead, I discovered that each half contained five fabric finger tips (one is slightly bigger than all of the others; it's for your thumb).

According to THEFACESHOP this format supposedly results in "a simple portable nail care that you can do anywhere at anytime" and is "the one and only nail pack in the world that is a finger care product which concentrates only on the fingernail and cuticle." Technically, this product is quite portable and it's not complicated to use but still, it has its challenges.

Applying the tips starts off easy but of course gets harder as you end up having to apply them with mask-covered fingers. Then, once they were on, I couldn't do much for the recommended 10-15 minutes of soaking time. In other words, this isn't really a product "that you can do anywhere at anytime." But at least this wasn't a messy product. While the fabric is well saturated in some kind of liquid, it didn't drip and actually felt quite refreshing on my fingers.

After the 15 minutes were up, I removed the fingertips and as per the instructions, massaged the remaining liquid into my nails and cuticles. Then I evaluated the results.

Now, maybe the real reason for this product's poor description is because it doesn't do much other than feel nice on. While my cuticles did look and feel more hydrated immediately following the removal of the mask, that sensation soon faded and my cuticles were back to normal. As for my nails, they didn't look or feel any different. My fingers did smell nice though; a pleasant, almost floral scent.

Like most of THEFACESHOP's products, this one is pretty affordable, coming in at around $4. It also only available at THEFACESHOP, which is expanding across Canada.

Would I buy this product: No because I didn't really notice a difference when I used this item.

Should you buy this product: The price is low enough that this is one of those products that you afford to try just for fun. If you do, maybe you'll have a better experience with it than I did.

THEFACESHOP Chia Seed Fresh Cleansing Form

It's been over a month since I started using THEFACESHOP's Chia Seed Fresh Cleansing Form as my primary face wash and I think that's enough time to make a verdict on this product. I should note now that I received this wash for free from THEFACESHOP when I attended that chain's launch party. But just because I received this product for free doesn't mean that I'll be going easy on it.

I couldn't find this product on THEFACESHOP's website (which desperately needs an overhaul) so I don't know what exactly the claims are for this product apart from the tube's mention of it being a "Foam cleanser that deeply cleanses your pores."

I also recall from the launch party that the chia line is aimed at people with combination skin, which is what I have. Between that and my love of cleaned our pores, this should be the perfect cleanser for me but sadly, the results say otherwise.

THEFACESHOP Smile Foot Mask

Of all of the many items I received a few weeks ago at THEFACESHOP launch party, the one I was most excited to try out was its Smile Foot Mask. Until this weekend, I'd never tried an at-home foot mask but now I think it might become a regular part of my routine.

Like all THEFACESHOP products, this one doesn't give you a lot to go on. I actually found the French instructions to be more useful than the English ones and according to them, this mask is supposed to give you baby-soft skin thanks to its inclusion of shea butter, urea and collagen. 

The Face Shop OverGirl Edge Sticks

When I first saw the two OverGirl Edge Sticks in my THEFACESHOP swag bag, I thought, "I will never be able to wear these candy colours." Based on the "sample" colour displayed in the clear cap, I had received one stick in a shiny mauve and one in a shiny rose. They are pretty colours but a bit more intense, and sparkly, than what I normally wear.

Then I tried the eyeshadows on and they turned out to be much less bright and saturated than I was anticipating. Normally I would have a problem with this; the colour on my eyelids should match the sample but in this case, it was OK because these less intense colours were actually wearable.

THEFACESHOP Face Mask Mung Bean

A mung bean? What’s that? Those were my first thoughts when I was introduced to this product at last week’s launch party for THEFACESHOP (so yes, I received this mask for free).

It turns out that a mung bean is a type of legume that’s more commonly used in cooking that as a beauty product. However, THE FACESHOP has decided that it’s just the ingredient to use in this clarifying face mask that’s designed to “purify and smooth skin.”

As per the instructions, I wore this mask for roughly 12 minutes. The serum contained on it was quite cooling, resulting in a smoothing, relaxing sensation. While I’m not sure if this is also true of mung beans in their natural state, the mask had a light, fresh scent to it that didn’t linger. It complemented the overall experience nicely and really added to that spa-feel.
