10 Anti-Aging Products You Shouldn't Be Using

This week’s edition of Paula Begoun, the Cosmetic Cop’s, newsletter contained a very interesting article called “10 Anti-Aging Products You Shouldn't Be Using”.

Two of the listed items in particular caught my eye: L'Oreal Paris Advanced Revitalift Complete Day Cream SPF 15 and Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Anti-Aging Moisturizer Plus Cooling Hydration.

Both of these are heavily advertised, big brand products that I have considered using but now definitely won’t.

According to the article, there are several things wrong with the L’Oreal cream, starting with the fact that its SPF15 doesn’t provide enough UVA protection. Paula also points out that it’s poorly formulated, poorly packaged and “…contains several fragrant ingredients that can trigger irritation.”

Irritating ingredients is also why Paula doesn’t approve of the Olay product: “…irritation like this isn't the way to achieve younger-looking skin; in fact, this kind of irritation can cause collagen to break down, reduce normal cellular repair, and increase sensitivity!”

While both of the above items are reasonably priced, the majority of the items on the list cost over $50, with several costing over $100. Because of that, this article is also a nice reminder that just because something’s expensive doesn’t mean that it works.

  1. After reading Paula's reasons for not using an eye creme I will now never consider buying one!

  2. I tried the 7 Effects as a sampler and my skin got red and irritated - which I thought was odd because I have used other Olay items without problems. Have you tried BB Cream yet....the commercial looks so tempting...or nanoblur? These are on my must try list.....

  3. Here's my review on Garnier's BB cream: http://stufflindsaybought.blogspot.ca/2012/04/garniers-skin-renew-miracle-skin.html I've never tried Nanoblur because I haven't read the greatest things about it.
