It's That Time Of Year Again: Shoppers' Super Spend Your Points Event

If you're a collector of Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Points, get ready to spend them this weekend, November 29-30. It's time once again for the holiday season Super Spend Your Points Event, which sees 95,000 points, the top level, worth $210 instead of the usual $170.

It's not the very best points deal of the year (in the summer, and I think in September, there was a weekend when 95,000 points got you $220 worth of stuff) but the timing can't get any better. I love this event because it lets me take care of a few Christmas gifts as well as grab a few items for my annual holiday party.

If you're the organized type, be sure to check out this week's flyer so that you can plan your purchases and get the most bang for your points. Just do be prepared to be a bit flexible as certain items, particularly the pricier ones, are prone to selling out.

Also, to get the most bang for your buck, make sure to spend the full amount of whatever level you're redeeming. So, for example, if you plan on redeeming 95,000 points, make sure to spend at least $210 (pre-taxes). If you only spend $190, you'll be wasting some of your points.

You also don't need to use all of your points at once. If you have 100,000 points but only need $100 worth of stuff, you're fine to just redeem 50,000 points. The remaining 50,000 points will stay in your account though of course come next week, they'll just to worth the regular $85 amount.

Points can be spent on most items though not on lottery tickets, prescriptions, anything to do with Canada Post or municipal transit or a few other items, including, I believe, gift cards.

Happy shopping!
