My October 2013 Topbox

Normally Topboxes ship on the 10th of each month but for October, at the request of the sample suppliers, the boxes were sent out earlier. This caught my interest; what was being sent out that had to go early?

It turns out that the answer to that question is: A lot of anti-aging products. Okay, maybe if I'd picked one of the brand-specific Prive boxes, I wouldn't have ended up with a bunch of anti-aging products but I didn't. Instead, I told Topbox to send me a regular box, which is a mix of brands and products. Well, usually it's a mix of products. This time around I received:

  • Yves Saint Laurent Baby Doll Mascara (2 ml)
  • Darphin Predermine Densifying Anti-wrinkle Cream (15 ml)
  • Erno Laszio Transphuse Eye Refiner (2 ml)
  • Rivoli Le Visage Lumious Serum (3 ml)
  • A coupon for 10,000 Optimum points if I spend at least $75 at Murale

So out of my four items (the coupon doesn't count), I received three anti-aging items. One would have been fine and even two I could handle but three? That's a bit much, isn't it?

It didn't help that this box was "sponsored" by Murale. When I first saw the pretty tube I immediately pictured it being filled with fun makeup items and maybe a perfume sample. But unfortunately, I was wrong.

And while I am eager to try out the Baby Doll mascara, which I've read good things about, I don't really need another mascara (I have at least two others waiting for me to try them up, plus two tubes of Benefit They're Real). I would have preferred something else, ideally an eye colour, or maybe even a BB cream, but hey, at least it's not another anti-aging product.

Looking at the Topbox Facebook page, I can see that I'm hardly the only one disappointed by this box. But, based on the responses by the page's admin, it sounds like the November tube should contain makeup so that's good.

While I'm not exactly loving this box, I did have a run of four fantastic Topboxes prior to this one so I guess I was due for something a little blah. Hopefully, my next four boxes will be a return to Topbox's previous fine, and fun, form.

  1. I love this box! I must be older than you because I love trying new & expensive anti-aging products. Do you know if there are any clubs/groups that swap products/boxes?
