Illumalift Review

I received a deluxe sample of a product called Illumalift as part of a Christmas gift. While receiving a sample of brightening cream might at first seem like an odd, or even rude, gift, I was happy to get it. I'm a new mom and while my baby is getting better and better at sleeping multiple hours in a row (we're now averaging between five-six hours night), my sleep patterns are still messed up. As a result, I have noticeable dark circles under my eyes that could really benefit from a brightening cream.

Created by a Canadian company, Illumalift claims to be, "the first face brightener and primer with active ingredients that can instantly make you look younger!" While I only used it under my eyes, it can be "under eyes, eyelids, around the nasal folds and anywhere you have deep lines or dark areas."

Illumalift claims that this cream works in, "effectively minimizing the appearance of dark circles, broken capillaries, sun damage, blemishes, redness and any other skin imperfections." If you look at the before-and-after photos on the site's website, the results are dramatic. Unfortunately, I didn't have quite the same experience.

Illumalift is creamy product that's a yellowish-white shade. Maybe on certain skin tones, this colour works wonderfully to minimize the look of flaws but on mine it looked like I was hiding something under yellowish-white makeup. So yes, technically, this product did play down my dark circles however, the results were not "natural."

At least this product did deliver on its claim of having a "velvety texture." The cream did go on easily and smoothly and it blended nicely under my foundation, which thankfully covered up the yellowish-white coloured. It also worked nicely as a primer,  helping to extend the life of my foundation.

Then there are the longterm claims. According to Illumalift, using this cream for one month will result in "skin that looks two years younger." It does this by, "assist(ing) in repairing age related skin damage" and "reduc(ing) the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by helping to enhance collagen production over time."

At this point in time, I can't comment on these longterm claims because I haven't been using this product yet for a month. However, I plan on trying to remember to apply this product daily and then, come February, I'll evaluate how my under-eye area looks.

What I can evaluate right now is the packaging, which I have mix feelings about. While the compact-style container is practical and bag-friendly,  the white plastic material makes it feel and look kind of cheap. That kind of container also exposes the cream to air and dirty/oily fingers, which can result in a shorter product lifespan.

Illumalift retails for $33 Canadian and in addition to being available online, it can be found in Ontario in a number of brick-and-mortar stores, all which are clearly listed on the product's website (thanks for that!).

Would I buy this product: Not for its short-term benefits.

Should you buy this product: Not if you want instant results. As for its long-term benefits, check in with me in February.

  1. Hello Lindsay
Thanks for your review. What you received is a sample and not how the product is sold, just to clarify. We appreciate all reviews and would love to see pictures when posting so other people can see what you are claiming as well. Your skin type has a direct effect on the result as you stated. Its not for everyone but we stand behind our product. Have a great day and thanks for taking the time to post.

    1. Thanks Sandra for your feedback. Please note that I did state that I was using a sample. As for the lack of photos, I usually only include personal photos when the results are dramatic (good or bad), which was not the case when I used this product.
