Fekkai Advanced Brilliant Glossing Shampoo & Conditioner

You know what’s harder than evaluating a shampoo? Evaluating a shampoo and its matching conditioner; there are just so many variables and while you would think that a manufacturer would make sure that those two items complement each other, I can’t help but wonder if one half of the pair is bringing the other half down.

But since I don’t have the time, the energy or the product to try out these two items from Fekkai separately, as well as together, I decided to use them alongside each and see how they did, together, in the following situations:
  • Just shampoo and conditioner, nothing else, air-dry
  • Shampoo, conditioner, Moroccan Oil, blow-dry
  • Shampoo, conditioner, Moroccan Oil, air-dry
  • Shampoo, conditioner, blow-dry
For my testing I used the samples that I received in my January Luxe Box. Thankfully, these were good-sized samples otherwise this would be a very different review.
That’s because after my first two washes, I wasn’t very impressed with these products. They weren’t bad, they did get my hair clean, but they weren’t anything special, and certainly didn’t make my hair glossy.
But then I used these items for the third time and, despite not using the blow dryer, I ended up with really shiny and smooth hair. The fourth time repeated those results and my hair felt softer (and still does).
According to Fekkai’s website, the shampoo, “…bathes hair with encapsulated spheres of olive oil all day long to keep locks lustrous” so maybe this product needs to be used a few times to truly “bathe” one’s hair.
The conditioner also uses olive oil and both it and the shampoo are safe for colour-treated hair. They’re also both on the pricey side; the Fekkai website lists a 16 oz. bottle of either product at $39.
If those are also the in-store prices, I think I’ll give these two products a pass even though they do deliver on the shine and moisture that they promise. While they’re good, they aren’t $40 good.
Would I buy this again: Depends on the price.
Should you buy it: Yes, as long as you’re good with the price of course.
