bliss Fabulous Makeup Melt Gel-to-Oil Cleanser Review

Last week's arrival of my Bioré Glam Box, which contains a tube of Baking Soda Pore Cleanser, reminded me that I had a half-written review for bliss' Fabulous Makeup Melt Gel-to-Oil Cleanser sitting in my drafts. So earlier this week, I put the Bioré product on hold and gave the bliss one another shot.

I was quickly reminded about this cleaner's good qualities. The "gel-to-oil formula" is applied to dry skin and instantly melted into a warm oil that felt wonderful on my skin. That great feeling continued as I rinsed the product off. According to bliss, this product leaves skin, "...feeling completely clean, silky-smooth, and perfectly nourished, with a gorgeous afterglow." I completely agree about the "feeling" part. This cleanser did leave my skin feel soft, hydrated and very clean. However, a close look in the mirror revealed that while this product left my skin feeling fantastic, it wasn't cleaning it as thoroughly as I needed it to.

bliss Fabulous Drench 'N' Quench Moisturizer Review

I've been in the market for a new moisturizer so I was pleased that my February Topbox contained a small tube of bliss' Fabulous Drench 'N' Quench Moisturizer. bliss is known for making quality products that aren't exactly cheap so I had high hopes for this item.

Described as a "cream-to-water transformative moisturizer," this moisturizer uses something called "hydrozome™ technology" to "immediately drench skin with over 10,000 marine micro-droplets." This supposedly results in skin that is, "immediately hydrated and stays moisturized all day long, with no greasy after-feel"

bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash

I received this bliss face wash for free as part of my gift bag from Hudson Bay’s Confessions of an Editor event. The timing was perfect because I was just finishing off another face wash. Now, I'm almost done this newest face wash and so far the results have been… mediocre.

bliss describes this product as “A two-in-one oil-free exfoliating wash for all skin types…” that has “…a non-stripping formula that rebalances even the most schizophrenic of skins.” Besides not using the term “schizophrenic” correctly, this wash also didn't “rebalance” my skin. After using this product for over two weeks, usually twice a day, my skin doesn't look any healthier or improved.

Now, it doesn't look any worse, but in no way does it look “rebalance,” regardless of how you define that word.  I will though give this wash its “non-stripping” claim because it didn't dry out my skin.

bliss lemon+sage Body Butter Vs. Cake Milk Made Nourishing Body Butter

Loose powders aren't the only thing I've been comparing these past few weeks. I've also been testing out two yummy selling body butters, one made by Cake and the other made by bliss, to see if one performs better than the other.

Comparing these two products was easy: I simply applied the Cake one to just my left leg and I applied the bliss one to just my right leg.

The immediate results were identical. Both of these body butters have a thick, rich texture that feels fabulous on. Yeah, both moisturizers did leave my skin feeling a little greasy but they also felt like they were really hydrating my skin.

After two weeks’ worth of nearly daily use, both of my legs were silky smooth and soft.  Based on both touch and look, both body butters did a great, and essentially equal job, at moisturizing my skin.
But while these body butters might produce identical results, they do have a few key differences. The first is price. At around $35 for a 6.7 oz, the bliss butter is pricier than the Cake one, runs around $24 for 8 oz. They’re also packaged differently, with the bliss moisturizer coming in a tube while the Cake one is packaged in a tube.

Both products do share multiple ingredients, including coconut oil, but only Cake claims to have a body butter that’s free of parabens, gluten, GMOs and other controversial ingredients.

Then there's how these two products smell. Both of these body butters are heavily scented but in very different ways. The Cake butter has a sweet scent that always reminds me of baking (it contains notes of vanilla, milk and raspberries) while the bliss butter has a citrus-y, “clean” scent that sort of reminds me of cleaning products but in a good way.

Personally, I love both scents but I can see why someone might be turned off by one of them. And while it should go without saying, if you’re someone who has issues with scented products, avoid both of these body butter.

But if you love rich, scented body butters, you’ll want to check out both of these items. Which one to use really depends on which scent you prefer; as well as how much you want to spend to get well hydrated skin.
