In-shower moisturizers are products that seem kind of weird ("I apply it to my wet body?") but that actually make a lot of sense since the best time to apply a moisturizing product is when your skin is damp, so that you are essentially sealing that hydration into your skin.
Still, despite knowing that, I was skeptical of Jergens' Moisturizer for Wet Skin with Coconut Oil. Sure, I figured that it would be better than nothing but would it be better than a regular, outside-of-shower moisturizer? I decided to find out by doing a split test: For over a week, I would use the Jergens in-shower product on one leg while my other leg would receive Nivea's Cocoa Butter Body Lotion outside of the shower.

Vaseline Intensive Care Dry Skin Repair Lotion Review
Happy New Year! Let's kick things off with a look at how to deal with one of winter's biggest issues: Dry skin.
One of the best products out there to fight winter-induced dryness is good old-fashioned Vaseline. Unfortunately, Vaseline is disgusting to apply and leaves skin looking and feeling greasy and well, gross. But it does work. Because of that, I had high hopes for Vaseline's Intensive Care Dry Skin Repair Lotion, which claims to leave "your skin deeply moisturized and looking noticeably healthier" while also being "fast-absorbing for a non-greasy feel."
I started using this product (which I believe I received in a bonus Topbox) back in November. Since then, I’ve used it on my elbows, my legs, even my face. But mostly I used it on my very dry feet.

Delectable Coconut & Cream Ultra Nourishing Hand Cream Review
Delectable is an off-shoot of Cake Beauty. I'm not exactly sure what the difference between the two companies is as both seem to have a focus on scented products that come in cute packaging.I received a tube of the brand's Coconut & Cream Ultra Nourishing Hand Cream in a recent Topbox. Since then, I've been periodically using it on my hands and, in order to really test it out, my feet.
Delectable claims that this cream will deliver, "super-smooth, soft and nourished hands." It supposedly achieves these results because the cream, "is enriched with mango butter, shea butter and aloe vera to smooth, nourish and rejuvenate hand and cuticles."

Nivea Firming Q10 Plus Body Lotion
Disclosure: I received this product for free from... I can't remember. I'm not on Nivea's product sample list so I suspect this is a swag bag item. I do know that this lotion has been sitting in my bathroom closet for months and that earlier in July, I decided to give it a shot. After all, it's finally bare leg season and what could be better for bare legs than a lotion that promises to hydrate skin while also firming it?According to Nivea, this lotion "noticeably improves the feeling of skin firmness within 2 weeks" while "instantly leav(ing) your skin feeling more elastic" and "strengthen(ing) the skin through moisturization." It archives all of this thanks to its inclusion of Q10, Creatine and L-Carnitine. Those three ingredients sound fancy but as the linked-to descriptions reveal, they are no guarantee of firmer skin.

Jergens BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream Review
Jergens BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream is another full-size sample that I received in my Spark Sessions swag bag (yes, the swag bag from this conference is amazing).
As you’ve probably already guessed from this product’s name, this is a “multi-tasking body moisturizer” that models itself after the more popular BB face creams. “Developed to transform dull, uneven body skin into radiant, luminous, flawless skin, this revolutionary formula isn't just a surface fix,” says Jergens, supposedly it “ …works overtime to promote more even, bright and visibly firm skin.”

Nivea In-shower Body Moisturizer Skin Conditioner
One of the benefits of being a Spark Sessions attendee is that you get to try out new products before the general public does. This year, one of those products was Nivea’s In-shower Body Moisturizer Skin Conditioner, an item that’s currently available overseas but not due out in Canada until I believe this month.
While you use this product in the shower, it’s not a body wash. Instead, it’s “a new and more convenient way to moisturize” that lets you “quickly moisturize before you even get out of the shower.” After bathing, but while still in the shower, you apply this creamy product all over your body and then immediately rinse it off. According to Nivea, the moisturizer is “…activated by water and immediately absorb(s) into the skin. It leaves a nourishing and caring film on the skin surface without a sticky feeling.” As a result, Nivea says that this product means, “…gone are the days where you need to wait around for your skin to absorb moisturiser after showering, and with no greasy after-feeling, you can slip clothes straight on and carry on with your day.”

Consonant Citrus Bergamot Organic Body Lotion Vs. Vaseline Intensive Rescue Repairing Body Lotion
As I mentioned in my last post, I recently came across a bunch of sample from Toronto skincare line Consonant. While I’m still testing out my second round of Consonant face moisturizers, I recently finished my sample of the brand’s Citrus Bergamot Organic Body Lotion. Since I had a fairly small sample of this product, I decided to stretch it out by only applying it to my left leg. On my right leg I used a product that’s sort of the antithesis of the 99.5% natural, paraben-free Consonant lotion: Vaseline’s Intensive Rescue Repairing Body Lotion. So which moisturizer worked better: The organic one or the uh, not organic one? Well, based strictly on how my skin feels and looks, the two products had basically the same results. Both moisturizers did a reasonable job at making, and keeping my skin soft and smooth and both helped it to pass the scratch test (meaning that if I scratch my skin, I’m not left with a bunch of dry skin cells flaking off). Neither was greasy-feeling, both absorbed quickly and cleanly and I didn't have any negative skincare issues while using the two lotions.

bliss lemon+sage Body Butter Vs. Cake Milk Made Nourishing Body Butter
Loose powders aren't the only thing I've been comparing these past few weeks. I've also been testing out two yummy selling body butters, one made by Cake and the other made by bliss, to see if one performs better than the other.
Comparing these two products was easy: I simply applied the Cake one to just my left leg and I applied the bliss one to just my right leg.
The immediate results were identical. Both of these body butters have a thick, rich texture that feels fabulous on. Yeah, both moisturizers did leave my skin feeling a little greasy but they also felt like they were really hydrating my skin.
After two weeks’ worth of nearly daily use, both of my legs were silky smooth and soft. Based on both touch and look, both body butters did a great, and essentially equal job, at moisturizing my skin.
But while these body butters might produce identical results, they do have a few key differences. The first is price. At around $35 for a 6.7 oz, the bliss butter is pricier than the Cake one, runs around $24 for 8 oz. They’re also packaged differently, with the bliss moisturizer coming in a tube while the Cake one is packaged in a tube.
Both products do share multiple ingredients, including coconut oil, but only Cake claims to have a body butter that’s free of parabens, gluten, GMOs and other controversial ingredients.
Then there's how these two products smell. Both of these body butters are heavily scented but in very different ways. The Cake butter has a sweet scent that always reminds me of baking (it contains notes of vanilla, milk and raspberries) while the bliss butter has a citrus-y, “clean” scent that sort of reminds me of cleaning products but in a good way.
Personally, I love both scents but I can see why someone might be turned off by one of them. And while it should go without saying, if you’re someone who has issues with scented products, avoid both of these body butter.
But if you love rich, scented body butters, you’ll want to check out both of these items. Which one to use really depends on which scent you prefer; as well as how much you want to spend to get well hydrated skin.

Cake Milk Made Smoothing White Sugar Body Scrub and Nourishing Body Butter
And personally, I'm okay with that. I love the smell of vanilla cake and I even more, I love the smell of these products. Yes, it’s strong but it’s sweet and cakey and just all around amazing.
And just as amazing are the results of these two products. I've always used them together, so I can’t comment on how they work independently but I can say that together they do indeed leave skin “deeply hydrated, velvety smooth and ravishingly radiantly.”

Barefoot Venus SOS Lotion in Hunny Mango
Barefoot Venus says that “Dry, chafed skin magically vanishes…” when this product is used and you know what, they’re right. This product instantly makes flakes vanish while regular use results in skin that looks and feels smooth, moisturised and healthy.
What makes this product work is its great list of ingredients that includes macadamia nut oil, sesame seed oil, wheat germ oil, lanolin and vitamin E. All of these items, plus more, work together to effectively fight dry skin while making this lotion feel like something far pricier than its $20 suggested retail price.

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Lotion
Last week, when I opened my sample package of Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Lotion, I was really hoping to see, and smell, a product that would take me back to the cocoa butter of my childhood. It wasn't a crazy idea since my mother's cocoa butter was some kind of reasonably priced drugstore product and that's exactly what Palmer's lotion is.

Biotherm Lait Corporel Body Milk
Biotherm describes this product like this, “A quick penetrating milk with citrus extracts, a delicate fragrance and light texture that is neither sticky nor greasy.” I completely agree with all of this. “Milk” is the perfect way to describe this very light, almost “runny” product. The scent is also very light, and reminds me of the scent used in the body balm (but sadly that's where the similarities end).

Jergens Overnight Fix Moisturizer
Beauty product manufacturers take note: It pays to give deluxe sized samples.
I recently received a 7 ml sample of Jergens Overnight Fix Moisturizer in the mail, enough to last me for seven nights (I used this sample on my face and elbows).
If this had been your usual one-three day sized sample, I would be recommending skipping this product since it did nothing for me for three days. If anything, my skin seemed flakier and drier than usual when I first started using this glycerin-based lotion.
But then the morning after I used it for the fourth time I noticed that all the flakiness was gone and that my skin visibly looked healthier and brighter. Good thing I was sent a bigger than usual sample.
